SEO for Homecare helps Medicare-certified home health agencies rank for skilled nursing, therapy and wound care searches, and builds the referral-source pages and trust signals clinicians check before they send a patient your way.

Sound familiar?

The frustrations we hear most

Hospital systems and national directories take the top results for skilled care in the counties you serve.

Physicians and discharge planners look at your website before they refer, and it doesn't tell them what they need to know.

Skilled nursing, PT, OT, speech therapy and wound care all share one generic services page, so none of them rank.

You can't staff the referrals you already get, and your careers page draws no search traffic from nurses or therapists.

How we help

What changes when you work with us

Home health is clinical care. A provider orders it, Medicare pays for much of it, and the person searching is as likely to be a hospital case manager as a patient's daughter. So we build your site for both: a clear page for every service line through our on-page SEO service, visibility in every county you staff through our local SEO program, and authority from healthcare-relevant sites through link building and digital PR.

The foundations come from the complete guide to home care SEO, adjusted for the rules and referral patterns of skilled care. If your agency provides non-medical, private-pay help with bathing, meals and companionship instead, our page on SEO for non-medical home care agencies is the better fit.

How do physicians and discharge planners find a home health agency?

Medicare only covers home health when a doctor or other provider sees the patient in person and orders the care, according to Medicare.gov. That puts referral sources at the center of your intake. When a physician's office, discharge planner or case manager checks a new agency, they want your service lines, the counties you cover, the payers you accept and how to send a referral. A dedicated page answers that in a minute.

A strong referral-source page includes:

  • Counties, towns and ZIP codes your clinicians actually cover
  • Each skilled service, with the clinician type who delivers it
  • The insurance and payers you accept
  • Referral intake by phone, fax or secure form, with the hours someone answers
  • A link to your agency's profile on Care Compare

How should a home health agency rank for each service line?

Give every skilled service its own page. Medicare's home health benefit covers part-time skilled nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech-language pathology, and people search for each one separately. A single “our services” page can't rank for home physical therapy and wound care at the same time. Separate pages can, and each one gives a referrer something specific to send.

Service lineWhat the page should answer
Skilled nursingMedication management, post-surgical care, disease teaching, visit frequency
Physical therapyRecovery after a fall, stroke or joint replacement; what a home visit involves
Occupational therapyGetting back to daily tasks safely, home safety changes
Speech therapySwallowing, speech and cognition after stroke or illness
Wound carePressure sores and surgical wounds, how often a nurse visits

Home health aide visits deserve a mention too, but as supporting content. Medicare only covers aide care when the patient is also receiving skilled nursing or therapy, so it rarely leads a search on its own.

Do Care Compare star ratings affect how patients choose an agency?

They are built for exactly that. CMS publishes two home health star ratings on Care Compare: a Quality of Patient Care rating drawn from OASIS assessments and claims, and a Patient Survey rating based on HHCAHPS. Both are updated quarterly. Your website can't change the ratings, but it can put them in context and show what you do with feedback.

According to CMS, the HHCAHPS survey asks patients about how providers communicated about their care, the quality of that care and whether they would recommend the agency. CMS also states that consumers can use the survey data and star ratings when comparing and choosing agencies. Smaller agencies should know that a Patient Survey rating needs at least 40 completed surveys over four quarters, so a newer agency may not have one yet.

What we do: link to your Care Compare profile, make sure your agency name and address match it exactly, and build a steady flow of Google reviews so families see recent experiences alongside the government data.

Why do licensure and Medicare certification matter for search?

Patients can only use the Medicare home health benefit with a Medicare-certified agency, so certification is one of the first things families and referrers look for. Health content also faces a higher bar in search: Google says its systems give more weight to strong E-E-A-T on topics that affect people's health. Your credentials need to be easy to find and easy to verify.

  • Medicare certification, state license and any accreditation stated plainly, with numbers where appropriate
  • Named clinical leaders who review your service and education content
  • Structured data so search engines and AI assistants read the same facts a human does
  • Accurate clinical language, with no promises about outcomes

How do you build service-area pages across several counties?

Build one page for each county or metro you genuinely staff, not one per ZIP code. Each page should name the towns your clinicians cover, the hospitals you take referrals from, the service lines available there and a local intake number. Google's spam policies list pages targeted at specific regions or cities that funnel users to one page as doorway abuse, so thin copies with the town name swapped do more harm than good.

Each real branch office also gets its own Google Business Profile and its own page.

Can SEO help a home health agency recruit clinicians?

Yes, and for many agencies it matters as much as patient search. A referral you can't staff is a referral that goes to someone else. Nurses, physical therapists and occupational therapists search for jobs by role and location, much like patients search for care. A careers section with a page per role and region, honest detail on territory and schedule, and job posting markup helps you show up in those searches.

We treat recruiting pages as part of the same plan, because for many agencies growth is limited by clinician hours as much as by referrals.

Common questions

How do physicians and discharge planners find home health agencies online?+

Most check a new agency's website before sending a referral, looking for service lines, counties covered, payers accepted and a fast way to refer. A dedicated referral-source page answers those questions in one place.

Do Care Compare star ratings affect which agency patients choose?+

CMS publishes Quality of Patient Care and Patient Survey star ratings on Care Compare and says consumers can use them when comparing agencies. SEO can't change your ratings, but your site can link to your profile, explain how you act on patient feedback and back it up with recent Google reviews.

How do we rank for skilled nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and wound care?+

Give each service line its own page covering what the service involves at home, who delivers it and which areas you cover, then link it from your referral and county pages.

Should Medicare and private-pay intake have separate pages?+

If you offer both, yes. Medicare home health has eligibility rules, such as being homebound and having care ordered by a provider. Private-pay clients are often looking for help Medicare doesn't cover, like 24-hour care or personal care on its own. Separate pages match each search and send each inquiry to the right intake team.

We cover several counties. Do we need a page for each one?+

One page per county or metro you actually staff is usually right. Each page needs real local detail: towns covered, hospitals you work with and the services available there. Pages that only swap the place name tend to hurt more than they help.

Do your case studies include home health agencies?+

Our published case studies are in-home care clients: Loving Homecare Inc. in the US and True Homecare in the UK. The local visibility and authority work behind those results carries over to home health, with the referral-source, service-line and credential work on this page added on top.
